Acne

Acne is a common skin condition affecting our teenage and adult patients. Our practitioner will review acne skin care, acne myths, acne and diet, acne medications, and other acne treatments with you.

Acne Solutions: Chemical peels, Microdermabrasion, ALA/PDT

Acne Scars - Pigmented (Red and Brown)

After an acne lesion has healed, it can leave a red or hyperpigmented mark on the skin. This is actually not a scar, but rather a post inflammatory change. The redness or hyperpigmentation is seen as the skin goes through its healing and remodeling process, which takes approximately 6 – 12 months. If no more acne lesions develop in that area, the skin can heal normally. Any color change or skin defect still present after 1 year is considered to be a permanent defect or scar. The best way to prevent post-inflammatory changes caused by acne is to prevent acne lesions from occurring. This is done by understanding the factors that cause acne and using the appropriate treatments for the different acne types.

Acne Scar (Pigmented) Solution: Photofacials, Chemical Peels, Skin Lightening Creams

Acne Scars - Pitted

Pitted acne scarring is caused by a loss of tissue that results from damage to underlying skin tissue after an acne lesion goes away. Depressed scars have an "ice-pick" appearance, with sharp jiggered edges, or can be softer scars, looking much like scars left over from chicken-pox.

Acne Scar (Pitted) Solution: Fractional Laser Treatment

Cellulite

Cellulite is the lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and buttocks. Cellulite is actually a fancy name for collections of fat that push against the connective tissue beneath a person's skin, which causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look lumpy.
